Fiesta Garibaldi neighbors not thrilled with patio planJune
12 -- Fiesta Garibaldi neighbors attending a neighborhood
meeting last week were clearly not thrilled with the restaurant’s
proposal to add outdoor seating, but stopped short of rejecting the
idea.
Neighbors said noise from the restaurant, 5108 W. Bluemound Rd., already keeps them awake at night. “They’re louder than any bar that’s ever been there,” one woman said. “Noise and security is the key issue,” said one man. “It’s a huge problem.” Another neighbor said the Bluemound Rd. bars are doing better, as are the Milwaukee Brewers, which increases the people, noise and litter in the area. “I could live in the Third Ward if I wanted that kind of intense experience,” she said. Ald. Michael Murphy, who organized the meeting, said he sent out hundreds of invitations. About a dozen residents turned out. Fiesta Garibaldi is proposing to add an outdoor eating area that is 50 feet long and 17 feet wide. It would accommodate 46 additional people. The restaurant would lose two parking spaces. Restaurant representatives said there would be no live music on the patio, and that all patrons would be asked to leave that part of the restaurant by 10 p.m. Murphy said he would survey the residents who attended the meeting on whether they oppose the patio idea. The restaurant’s application for a permit that would allow the patio is likely to be considered by the Common Council’s Utilities and Licenses Committee in July. Neighbors wanting to receive notice of the meeting should contact Murphy’s office via email or by calling 414-286-2221.
