Story
Hill homes get committee nod
May
30, 2006 -- Plans for a six-lot, single-family
development at the site of the former Story Hill Gardens
nursery was recommended for approval last week by a Common
Council committee.
"It's
nice to see development in our city, and not only on the
East Side and Downtown," Ald. Michael Murphy told
the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee.
The development
at 5133 W. Bluemound Rd. will feature a range of architectural
styles to fit in with the eclectic Story Hill neighborhood.
Larry Brinkmann,
one of the developers working on the project, said people
who buy the lots may want their own builders.
"At the
same time, we're looking at having the option of building
the six homes ourselves," he said.
Murphy acknowledged
the efforts of neighborhood residents Steve Brachman,
Carlen Hatala and Robert Trimmier in meeting with the
developers to explain neighborhood concerns and objectives.
"We appreciate
the leadership Ald. Murphy has shown on this," Trimmier
told the committee, adding that the developers have been
cordial.
"Good
for the neighborhood that you insisted on excellence,"
said Ald. Michael D'Amato.
The full Common
Council will consider the matter Wednesday, May 31.
