Ave. bridge light poles to be replaced
Wind knocked one off bridge, Murphy says
Nov.
7, 2007 -- About 50 light poles on the Wisconsin Ave. bridge
east of Story Hill will be immediately removed because their bases are
corroded, Ald. Michael Murphy said Tuesday.
The
problem was discovered after high winds on Monday knocked a light pole
off the viaduct, Murphy said. It struck a car below the bridge but no

Department
of Works personnel inspected other light poles on the bridge after the
incident and discovered the corrosion, he said.

poles were installed in 1992 or 1993 and should not
"It
looks like salt was the main culprit," he said.
The
light poles will be replaced, but that won't happen immediately, he
said.
"We

He
said he did not yet know how much it would cost to replace the lights.
Murphy
said he wanted the city to examine its legal options in the matter.
