Aug. 6, 2007 -- Fiesta Garibaldi will be allowed to install an outdoor eating patio to accommodate up to 60 diners.

The Common Council voted last week to allow the Fiesta Garibaldi owner Valdemar Escobar permission to add the patio to his restaurant at 5108 W. Bluemound Rd.

Ald. Michael Murphy told the council's Licenses Committee that a postcard survey indicated most restaurant neighbors supported the patio addition.

Whoops: Fiesta owner doesn't show up at hearing

July 16, 2007 -- Fiesta Garibaldi owner Valdemar Escobar did not appear at the July 17 public before the Common Council's Licenses Committee on his request for an outdoor dining patio at his restaurant, 5108 W. Bluemound Rd.

HIs failure to show was appears to be a simple scheduling error by Escobar, and the hearing will be held instead July 26, according to Ald. Michael Murphy's office.

Fiesta Garibaldi neighbors not thrilled with patio plan

June 12, 2007 -- Fiesta Garibaldi neighbors attending a neighborhood meeting last week were clearly not thrilled with the restaurant’s proposal to add outdoor seating, but stopped short of rejecting the idea.

Neighbors said noise from the restaurant, 5108 W. Bluemound Rd., already keeps them awake at night.

“They’re louder than any bar that’s ever been there,” one woman said.

Do you like it? The new Fiesta Garibaldi paint job is the work of an artist, restaurant representatives said. It may be painted over to a be more traditionally southwestern.

“Noise and security is the key issue,” said one man. “It’s a huge problem.”

Another neighbor said the Bluemound Rd. bars are doing better, as are the Milwaukee Brewers, which increases the people, noise and litter in the area.

“I could live in the Third Ward if I wanted that kind of intense experience,” she said.

Ald. Michael Murphy, who organized the meeting, said he sent out hundreds of invitations. About a dozen residents turned out.

Fiesta Garibaldi is proposing to add an outdoor eating area that is 50 feet long and 17 feet wide. It would accommodate 46 additional people. The restaurant would lose two parking spaces.

Restaurant representatives said there would be no live music on the patio, and that all patrons would be asked to leave that part of the restaurant by 10 p.m.

Murphy said he would survey the residents who attended the meeting on whether they oppose the patio idea. The restaurant’s application for a permit that would allow the patio is likely to be considered by the Common Council’s Utilities and Licenses Committee in July.

Neighbors wanting to receive notice of the meeting should contact Murphy’s office via email or by calling 414-286-2221.

Dec. 18, 2005 -- License

by the Common Council

Garibaldi's liquor license renewal filed late

Dec. 12, 2005 -- The sign in the window says Fiesta Garibaldi is closed for remodeling, but the temporary lack of a liquor license also likely contributed to the shutdown.

The agent for the restaurant at 5108 W. Bluemound Rd. got the liquor license application in late, according to Ald. Michael Murphy. The license expired on Nov. 4, according to city records.

Those margaritas likely won't be missing for long, however. The Common Council's Licenses Committee recommended approval of a new license, and the full council could ratify that recommendation as soon as Tuesday, Murphy said.
